My name is Rael Wissdorf, I am a writer and composer, and I work as an editor at a writing academy. I have published a number of books, including crime novels, fantasy novels, and science fiction. As a composer, I write soundtracks and songs.
In my capacity as a game designer, I met Harald Evers in 1994. At that time we worked together on a 3D adventure game and also on a 3D implementation of his cave world point-and-click adventure game „Die Höhlenwelt-Saga – Der dunkle Kristall“. We quickly found common ground and became friends.
While I was still working in the crime genre, Harald was already writing his extensive „Caveworld-Saga“. Eight thick volumes, my goodness, I admired his diligence, discipline and imagination. When I later switched to fantasy myself, I only really realized what Harald had accomplished with the Caveworld saga.
Then, in November 2006, he suddenly passed away. He was still young – just 48 years old – and his career was on the upswing. Only a few weeks before, he had joined the team of authors of Germany’s most successful SF book series. It was a dream he had cherished since he could write. It was up to me to inform his fan community and support the many people who sorely missed him.
A few years passed when Markus Auer contacted me. He had long been a fan of Harald’s works and had recently acquired the rights to them. And now he wanted me to re-publish, edit and take care of Harald’s books. I did this with pride, as I could thus do a posthumous service to my friend. When Markus offered to translate the books into English, I was on fire. I knew that Harald had always wanted this.
As a composer, I then contributed a music album: „The Sound of Magic – Music Inspired by the Caveworld Saga“. A soundtrack to his books, so to speak. And I know he would have loved the elegiac and orchestral songs. And I’ve written a prequel to his series, „The Legacy of the Dragonlord,“ to add some facets to the saga and give a gift to the community.
Both will be given as a gift to the supporters of the project. We very much hope to be able to fulfill Harald Evers‘ last wish with it.
Yours,
Rael
